Cannabis Clubs in Madrid for Tourists: How to Join

If you are visiting Madrid, you have probably heard that you can join a cannabis club. That is true — but it does not work like Amsterdam. There are no coffeeshops in Spain: cannabis social clubs are private associations, and you need to become a member before you can go in. The good news is that for an adult visitor with a passport, the process is simple if you do it in the right order.

Can tourists join a cannabis club in Madrid?

Yes. Many clubs in Madrid accept visitors as members, including The Ozarks Club. Nationality and residency are not requirements. What matters is that you are an adult (18 or over at Ozarks — some clubs set their minimum at 21), that you bring a valid original ID, and that you respect the house rules.

What you need

• Your passport or an EU/EEA national ID card — the original, in date. A photo on your phone or a photocopy is not accepted.
• A submitted membership request. Apply online before you visit and pick your date.
• A phone number or email you check, so the club can reply to you.

How to join, step by step

1. Apply before you arrive. Send your request a few days before your trip so your date is booked before you land. At Ozarks it takes about two minutes on the membership request page.

3. Visit with your passport. On your first visit your ID is checked at the door and your membership is completed. From then on you can return as a member while you are in town.

Rules that matter for visitors

• Never consume in public. Consumption and possession in public places are fined under Spanish law (Ley Orgánica 4/2015). What happens in the club stays in the club.
• No photos of other members or the room.
• Be discreet at the door and considerate of neighbours.

Avoid street promoters

In central Madrid you may be approached by people offering to "get you into a club". Skip them. Apply directly through a club's official website, and be wary of sites that use a club's name with a different address.
